Anjou AOC Clos de Bonnes Blanches (Sec)

Domaine Belargus

The "Clos des Bonnes Blanches" is one of the emblematic plots located in Saint-Lambert du Lattay, cultivated as a single-plot by generations of local winegrowers. This walled Clos is just opposite from the domaine's most famous vineyard, Les Treilles, on the opposing bank of the Layon tributary. Being north-facing, it is their last parcel to be picked each year and known to be their most delicate expression of Chenin. The unique soils of this clos—talc shales and small quartz rocks—also play a cooling role, slowing ripening further still. This late-picked terroir produces what the domaine terms a more intellectual wine, giving very floral aromas with a unique touch of fennel and mint backed by a statuesque, mineral-driven spine. The Bonnes Blanches gives a wine renowned for its ageing potential, upending any assumption that bigger alcohol is necessary for longer aged dry Chenin.
